WINDHOEK, 05 AUG (NAMPA) – Jeremia van Wyk, a 50-year old man accused of raping a five-year-old girl last week made his first appearance in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
The accused appeared before magistrate Atutala Shikalepo for the alleged abduction and rape of the child on Thursday last week.
Van Wyk pleaded guilty to all charges against him and told the court that he committed all offences and does not want to waste the court’s time.
The accused confessed to the court that he took the child from a kindergarten in Khomasdal at around 13h00 to Katutura, with the intention to rape her.
“I tried to insert my penis into the child’s vagina but it could not enter and I fingered her instead as I was under the influence of drugs and alcohol,” the accused said.
He allegedly kept the child until 21h00 when the police were notified by community members and then arrested Van Wyk before taking the child to hospital.
“I was sitting with other people drinking and smoking with the child seated next to me at the shebeen until 21h00 when I was arrested. People said this child is being searched for and I just ignored them and continued smoking,” the accused said.
Van Wyk added that people told him the police were on their way and he did not care much when the police came and arrested him.
The accused requested the court not to keep him at the holding cells but to be transferred to the Windhoek Central Prison as at the cells, others housed there allegedly beat him up.
The case was postponed to 19 November this year for further investigations and the suspect was denied bail on the grounds of the infancy of investigations and it not being in the public’s interest.
