OTJIWARONGO, 02 AUG (NAMPA) - The newly elected leadership of the Namibia National Teachers’ Union (Nantu) in the Otjozondjupa Region was on Friday introduced to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture’s Otjozondjupa Regional Director, Josephine Mutenda at Otjiwarongo.
Mutenda welcomed the eight newly elected union members and asked them to work with the directorate for the purpose of educating the Namibian child.
The new chairperson of Nantu’s Otjozondjupa Regional Executive is Job Nambili, who will be deputised by Benfried Kaapehi.
Letisia Kalwenya is the union treasurer, while Sylvia Kawana is the coordinator for gender affairs.
The secretary for information and publicity is Kaviyenene Katjijere and the regional organising secretary Chris Kambiri, working with Tjipuroina Uaaka and Ernest Gaseb.
Their meeting also discussed new strategies to be applied to improve the performance of teachers and learners in the region.
“We know that as a union and the directorate, we have a common goal of improving the general results of our learners, and that is exactly what we want to see during our five-year reign as Nantu leaders,” said Nambili.
He also urged the education directorate to amicably deal with matters of absenteeism of both teachers and learners at all schools in the region.
He said the union and directorate should also eliminate issues of teacher-learner relationships in the region, if they exist.
The meeting was also attended by other senior education managers based at the different sections of the regional education directorate at Otjiwarongo.
