OSHAKATI, 01 AUG (NAMPA) - Namib Mills, through its Top Score brand, has invested N.dollars 200 000 in its first ever Top Score 7-a-side Oshiwana (community) tournament taking place at Oshakati this weekend.
The tournament starts Friday and ends Sunday.
The launch of the event was held Wednesday at Oshakati, where the company announced the sponsorship which will cover the organising costs and prize money for the tournament that will now also see community teams participate.
The winning team will scoop a top prize of a floating trophy and N.dollars 15 000, while the runners-up will receive N.dollars 7 000. The third prize is N.dollars 3 000.
The aim of the tournament is to encourage people to use this social event to get together, build life-long friendships and to get to know each other, Namib Mills senior brand manager, Marne Bouwer, said in a speech read on her behalf.
According to Bouwer, the original Top Score 7-a-side tournament was introduced to Oshakati some four years ago and they gave companies the opportunity to enter. Namib Mills has now, however, decided to bring it to the community, hence the name Oshiwana.
Bouwer explained that the tournament is about investing in the development of sport and community upliftment.
Forty-seven clubs - from local companies and the community - are participating in the tournament.
