WINDHOEK, 01 AUG (NAMPA) – The third edition of the Debmarine Namibia Senior Regional Netball Championship was launched here on Wednesday by Netball Namibia (NN).
This year’s championship is scheduled to take place from 30 August to 01 September 2019, at the Khomasdal Netball Courts.
Speaking during the launch, NN secretary general Imelda Neronga said they are going to host the championship in Windhoek this year because they want it to get the publicity it deserves.
“When we started this championship in 2017 we held them in Windhoek, but because we want to decentralise the sport we last year hosted it at the Tamariskia Sports Grounds in Swakopmund.
“We are this year in our final sponsorship agreement with Debmarine, that is why we decided to bring the games back to Windhoek so the sponsors can see what they have done to improve netball in the country,” she said.
Neronga added that since the inception of the tournament the national senior netball team managed to select players from other regions as they are exposed to the national selectors during this championship.
As it was in the past, the winner of the championship will receive N.dollars 30 000 including gold medals and a floating trophy, while the second and third-placed teams will walk away with N.dollars 15 000 and N.dollars 9 000, respectively.
The regional teams have been placed in two pools.
Pool A consists of Hardap, Kavango East, Oshana, Kunene, Ohangwena, Zambezi and //Kharas while Pool B is comprised of the Omusati, Khomas, Erongo, Otjozondjupa, Kavango West, Oshikoto and Omaheke regions.
