WINDHOEK, 31 JUL (NAMPA) – The Bank of Namibia (BoN) here on Tuesday donated N.dollars 5 million to the Office of the Prime Minister towards the national drought relief programme.
This is in response to the government’s call for all Namibians to contribute to the initiative.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Government from BoN Governor Ipumbu Shiimi, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila noted that the call for support has been receiving positive feedback from various donors.
She said although the funds towards the programme are increasing due to the donations, the public should not think there is no need to continue contributing as the need still remains.
“We need to build resilience to combat any future national disasters such as malaria, amongst others,” she explained.
President Hage Geingob in May this year declared a state of emergency due to the persisting drought the country has been experiencing.
Since then, a number of donations have been made towards the relief efforts.
