WINDHOEK, 21 JUL (NAMPA) Keetmanshoop-based 12 Brigade (Bde) is busy preparing for the upcoming Namibian Defence Force (NDF) tournament earmarked to take place from 05 to 10 August at Keetmanshoop, with sports men and women in uniform expected to participate.
The tournament, which includes soccer, netball, volleyball, boxing, pool table as well as track and field, will be held at the Keetmanshoop Stadium in the //Kharas Region.
According to 12 Bde sports chairperson, Lieutenant Colonel Samora Nyambali in an interview with Nampa, the tournament preparations are well underway, adding that a meeting was held on 18 July, where the tournaments draw took place and that only particulars such as the fixtures remain outstanding.
Nyambali said sport is good for the health of soldiers, especially during peace time and that the tournaments aim is to promote cohesion, encourage endurance, inspire physical fitness and encourage teamwork.
Sport allows soldiers to remain fit and ready to complement their mandate as defenders of this country, said Nyambali.
Also speaking to this agency, 12 Bde sports manager, Corporal Steven Matyayi said confirmations of participation have been received from various participants.
Matyayi said the tournament has come at the right time considering that the weather is good for sport participants.
We cant wait for the day to come. Players need to keep training and work hard in order to be able to represent Namibia in various sport disciplines, he said.
The 2018 NDF tournament, held in Windhoek, saw the 26 Bde emerging victorious, and walked away with 28 gold medals as well as N.dollars 3 000.
