ONGWEDIVA, 21 JUL (NAMPA) – Oshana Cycles Club (OCC) will on 27 July host a 50km fun cycling race at Ongwediva in the Oshana Region to pave the way for the club’s main cycling competition slated for 24 August.
Speaking to Nampa here on Thursday, one of the co-founders of the club, Lucky Mbako, said the race route will stretch from Oshana Mall in Ongwediva through Oshakati to the Okatana-Endola Road and back to Ongwediva.
“It is cycling for fun and no participation fee will be paid,” Mbako said, adding that there will be prizes to be won, in the form of vouchers.
According to Mbako, this competition is part of his club’s endeavours to introduce and promote cycling as a sport in northern Namibia, where it is not popular at this stage.
He indicated that the 100km, 60km and 25km cycling race will be held on 24 August during the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair, under the title Oshana Cycles Challenge.
It will be the club’s main event and will be contested in male and female categories.
“We will with the approval of the sponsors announce at a later stage the prizes to be won during our main event in August,” he added.
