Deceased in accident near Otjiwarongo identified

OTJIWARONGO, 15 JAN (NAMPA) - Four of the five people who perished in a head-on collision on the B1 road between Otjiwarongo and Otavi on Monday night, have been identified.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa in an interview on Wednesday that three of the deceased who were identified were from the Zambezi Region.
“The other deceased, a 38-year-old man, was from the Kavango East Region,” she said.
The deceased have been identified as Michael Mutelo Mutelo, 33; Beyonce Namasiku Mutelo, 6; Delly Chika Chalwa, 11; and Johannes Mbarawu, 38.
Mbeha said a girl thought to be 14 or 15 years old also died in the accident, but she is yet to be identified.
Her remains are being kept at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital mortuary.
It is expected that the deceased will be laid to rest in the Zambezi and Kavango East Regions over the weekend.
Mbeha said on Tuesday that the accident involved a courier company’s minibus and a Volkswagen sedan. It took place some 25 kilometres outside Otjiwarongo at around 22h30.
Nine people were involved in the accident, four of whom were in critical condition. They were transferred to the Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek on Tuesday morning.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
