WINDHOEK, 13 JUL (NAMPA) Tura Magic Football Club dominated the 2019 Skorpin Zink Namibia Football Association Womens League (WSL) awards when their players scooped most of the top prizes here Friday.
Defender Emma Naris won the best player of the season accolade while striker Anne-Marie Shikusho took away the top goal scorer award for having scored 29 goals during the season.
Magics coach Shama Gure was named coach of the season, with goalkeeper Melissa Matheus walking away with the goal keeper of the season award, to complete a memorable night for the Magicians.
Naris beat fellow Brave Warriors defender Ndapewa Katuta and Galz &Goals young striker Beverly Uueziua in the player of the season category.
An elated Naris said the award would motivate her to perform better.
I'm very happy to receive this award. If it wasn't for my teammates, I wouldn't be able to be in this position. So, a big thank you to them. I will definitely work hard for my team and hope that we continue winning, Naris said.
However the two runners up were then crowned Players player of the season and Young player of the season respectively.
Other winners of the night included former Gladiators winger Vistorina Shangula who won the best match official award, while Antoinette Tsuses received the Best Manager award.
Namib Daughters, from Gobabis were named team of the season, while Helge Schütz was named journalist of the season for his in-depth coverage of the womens game.
These were the first ever womens football awards to be held in Namibia following financial support from Skorpion Zink who injected N.dollars One million for the next two seasons, in a bid to improve womens football.
The event was graced by Minister of Youth, Sport and National Service Erastus Uutoni who called for equal treatment of women and men in sports.
