OSHAKATI, 11 JUL (NAMPA) – An Oshakati resident, identified as Matheus Shangemwene, burned to death after his shack was gutted by fire at the Oneshila location on Thursday morning.
Confirming the incident to Nampa on Thursday, Warrant Officer Frieda Shikole-Ashiyana of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Public Relations in the Oshana Region said Shangemwene’s shack caught fire at around 05h00.
Shangemwene, 47, burnt beyond recognition and the fire brigade personnel could not rescue the situation, as the fire had already destroyed the shack when it arrived at the scene.
According to Shikole-Ashiyana, a piece of wire was found around the neck of the deceased by the police officers when it removed his remains among the ashes.
It is suspected Shaningwa might have committed suicide.
His next of kin have been informed about his death and the Police have opened an inquest case docket in connection with the incident, she said.
