REHOBOTH, 11 JUL (NAMPA) – The alumni of the Rehoboth High School in Hardap Region on Friday handed over a new toilet block to their former school built at a cost of N.dollars 350 000 by the ‘Class of 1992’.
The event was attended by current learners, the school board and circuit inspector of #Oan-llOb, George Dax.
In a statement availed to Nampa on Thursday, Chairperson of the group, William Steyn said it was a proud moment to hand over the facility to the school after a construction period of nearly two years ago.
“We organised as former learners and we established a committee and as they say the rest is history. It was because of this school and our former teachers that we are successful people,” he was quoted as saying.
The statement further said the facility should be guarded jealously and not be vandalized.
In his speech at the handing over, Dax congratulated the former learners, saying they have answered the call made by former Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa in her campaign ‘Friends of Education’.
Dax added that it was a joyous day for Rehoboth High School to receive such a gesture and that it just shows that there are people that are meeting the government half way and ploughing back into the education of learners and future generation.
“I will thus call on you to take care of this facility with pride and not damage it as it might still be used by your children one day,” he was quoted as saying.
Dax called on other members of the community to emulate the example set by the school’s alumni.
