WINDHOEK, 10 JUL (NAMPA) – President Hage Geingob on Tuesday appointed Minister of Presidential Affairs, Martin Andjaba as the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture in an acting capacity.
Andjaba’s appointment was announced in a media statement issued by Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Dr Alfredo Hengari on Wednesday.
The statement said with seven months left before the end of term of the current Government, the President has decided not to appoint a new Minister in the education minister portfolio.
“Andjaba will assume all statutory functions of the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture as acting and the deputy minister, Anna Nghipondoka, will [continue to] deputise him in the portfolio,” the statement said.
Andjaba’s appointment follows the resignation of former education minister, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, on Tuesday, which was preceded by her conviction of corruption in the Windhoek High Court on Monday.
Monday’s verdict relates to charges of corruption and using a public office for gratification during her tenure as the former Governor of the Hardap Region in 2014.
