RUNDU, 09 JUL (NAMPA) – The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Roads Authority (RA) Conrad Lutombi said the construction of the Mpora -Bravo road in the Kavango West Region is on their strategic plan for 2018-2022 but there is no funding for now.
Lutombi was responding to concerns raised over the road by the Councillor of Mankumpi Constituency, Lukas Muha, on behalf of the residents of that region on Tuesday.
Lutombi said this is what's delaying the institution to commence with the construction of the road which according to him is one of their priority projects.
“Hence, because of the economic slowdown it is one of the projects amongst many that have been affected,” Lutombi said.
Muha said his office has received numerous queries over the construction of the Mpora- Bravo road in the Kavango West Region which is extremely sandy.
“This road was proclaimed about ten years back and has been featuring in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for several times although not in the current one,” the councillor explained.
Down the line, the councillor said he realised that in most cases when the road was featuring in the MTEF, money meant for the road would be moved to other projects.
The road, he said, connects the four constituencies; which are Ncamagoro, Mankumpi, Tondoro, and Mpungu.
The road also connects Kavango West as a Region to Oshikoto and Ohangwena Regions respectively.
The councillor said 70 to 75 per cent of the farmers who find themselves along this road are required to have 4x4’s or land cruisers in order to reach their farms or markets for produce in Nkurenkuru or Rundu, he added.
