10-year-old girl allegedly raped at Omena village

WINDHOEK, 08 JUL (NAMPA) – A 10-year-old girl from Omena village in the Oshikoto Region was among the alleged rape victims in incidents that took place between Thursday and Sunday, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has said.
A crime report issued by NamPol on Monday said the girl was allegedly coming from school with two boys after they were sent back home for arriving late.
It is alleged that an unknown man emerged, chased the kids with a tree branch, with the boys managing to run away, however the girl was caught by the assailant, who dragged her into bushes, where he then forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
The suspect, aged 24, was arrested and police investigations continue.
Another rape case was reported on Friday at Eenawa village in the Ruacana Constituency of the Omusati Region, where an 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 19-year-old man while she was on her way from school. It is alleged that the suspect grabbed the girl and pulled her in the nearby bushes, removed her underwear and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
The suspect has also been arrested.
Another women was reportedly raped on Sunday at around 01h00 at Aussenkar in the ǁKharas Region. It is alleged that an unknown man grabbed the 21-year-old victim while she was urinating behind a local bar. He allegedly pulled her into the darkness and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
The suspect is yet to be arrested.
Another girl, aged 13, was also allegedly raped on Saturday by two men, aged 20 and 21, at the Nuwerus location in Aranos in the Hardap Region. It is alleged that the suspects unlawfully and intentionally grabbed the victim from where she was playing with her friends, dragged her to their house, where they threatened to kill her with a knife and then took turns raping her.
Both suspects have been arrested.
In another rape incident, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 21-year-old man at a Catholic hostel in Gibeon in the Hardap Region.
The suspect, who allegedly threatened the victim with a knife while committing the act, was arrested, the report adds.
