OTJIWARONGO, 06 JUL (NAMPA) – A one-year-old baby boy is amongst two people who burned to death separately while asleep in shacks at Otjiwarongo on Friday night.
Namibian Police Force Acting Otjozondjupa Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb in an interview with Nampa on Saturday said the baby was identified as Festus Paulus.
“The incident allegedly occurred at a time when his parents had gone to a drinking spot where traditionally brewed beer is made in the New Ombili informal settlement,” said Khairabeb.
The baby was allegedly left alone inside the shack when the fire broke out, he added.
The other victim, 42-year-old Hosea Hoaeb also burned beyond recognition after the shack he was sleeping in caught fire and burned completely the same night in the Tsaraxa-Aibes informal settlement here.
“The cause of fire in both incidents is still unknown to us,” said Khairabeb.
The next of kin of the deceased are informed and police investigations continue.
