RUNDU, 03 JUL (NAMPA) – A 32-year-old woman who was arrested for allegedly dumping her two-week-old baby last week, was granted bail of N.dollars 1 000 Monday.
According to prosecutor Steven Haradoeb the accused, Mathilde Ihemba, was given bail when she appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Sonia Samupofu.
The prosecutor told Nampa on Wednesday that the case was postponed to 05 September this year for further investigations.
Samupofu cautioned Ihemba that in case she fails to appear at court on the given date, a warrant for her arrest may be issued and her bail provisionally cancelled.
The accused is alleged to have dumped her baby in an open space behind Ngandu Lodge in Rundu last Thursday, where the baby was found alive by community members the same day.
She was arrested on Sunday for attempted murder along with cruelty, ill-treatment and child neglect.
Haradoeb said the baby is currently in the care of social workers at the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
