WINDHOEK, 03 JUL (NAMPA) – The Okahatjipara July Handicap horse racing event under the auspices of the Professor Supporters Club (PSC) received N.dollars 600 000 from First National Bank (FNB) Namibia to be used over the next three years.
The annual event is now known as the FNB Okahatjipara July Handicap and is this year slated for 27 July in Okondjatu in the Otjozondjupa Region, where horses from various clubs will compete in 18 races.
Handing over the funds, FNB’s Head of Public Sector Banking Lesly Puriza said the race is one of the best attended events, attracting hundreds of people.
“The race is the ultimate test for racehorses and is an experience like no other. For us this sponsorship will remain a really important area,” he said.
He further added that the sponsorship will provide unique content opportunities and is an excellent way to associate the FNB brand with audience interest.
“It also helps to build stature and credibility,” he added.
PSC’s Director for Communication and Marketing, Benjamin Kasuto said horse racing is becoming a top sport in Namibia and it is a good gesture from FNB to come on board.
“Our club has been organising these racing events without sponsors. Although we succeeded, FNB’s sponsorship will add more value to it,” Kasuto said.
He said N.dollars 200 000 will be used for this year’s event, while the remaining amount will be utilised over the next two years.
