WINDHOEK, 01 JUL (NAMPA) – Brave Warriors head coach, Ricardo Mannetti, said the mood in the camp is very good as the team prepares to face Ivory Coast in their final group match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt.
Speaking to Nampa from Cairo on Monday, Mannetti said the players are raring to go as they attempt to defeat Ivory Coast and qualify for the second round of the tournament.
“One would expect the mood to be very low after losing to South Africa, but the players actually bounced back the following day after the defeat after they came to realisation that we can still qualify,” he said.
He added that the games are very close to each other, hence in their preparations they focused more on recovery than anything else.
He added that there were no new injuries to worry about, except Willy ‘Awilo’ Stephanus who suffered a muscle injury which kept him out of the South Africa match.
The coach added that winning the country’s first ever match at the tournament is a motivating factor for his team.
“We will change a few things, especially in the attack where we will go with speed. Ivory Coast are a slow team who build from the back. We have not scored a goal so we need to try different combinations by introducing fresh legs in the midfield following our two matches this week,” he added.
Namibia, who are yet to collect a point in Group D following two successive 1-0 defeats to South Africa and Morocco, will also be looking for their first goal of the tournament.
A victory for Namibia will boost their chances to qualify as one of the best placed third teams from the group stages.
