WINDHOEK, 27 JUN (NAMPA) The Naris Turf Club (NTC) will host the seventh edition of the Rehoboth July Handicap at the Rehoboth Horse Racing Track on Saturday.
Event organiser, Eamon Freygang, told Nampa in an interview on Thursday that the competition has so far attracted over 60 horses from the Okaondeka, Otjinene, Okahandja, Ohauro, Professor, Mouton, De Waal, Kobos, Epukiro and Harambee racing clubs, as well as individual horses.
Prize money worth N.dollars 60 000 is up for grabs for the winners in all eighth races.
Seasonal horses Kings Kitten, Starlile, Shadoloo, Stebbins, Rockley Beach, Pin Pot, Warrior Poet, Black Market and two new horses from South Africa will for the first time take each other on in the 2 200 metre (m) race, which is the main event.
These big guns will be competing for N.dollars 10 000 compliments of Deepsea July, Freygang said.
Horses like Bohemia, Canigao, Dashing Brave, Gimme The Light, Rockhampton Rocket, What Else and Wealthsmith will compete in the thoroughbred 1 600m D Division.
Racehorses Attheroyal, Rockley Beach, Kings Kitten and Warrior Poet and others are expected to challenge Oro Negro in the 1 000m A Division.
Oro Negro is unbeaten this year in three competitions this year in the 1000m A Division, Freygang said.
Starlile from Okahandja Racing Club won the main race of the competition last year.
Established in 2011, the NTC aims to develop and promote horse racing in Rehoboth and the rest of the country.
