WINDHOEK, 25 JUN (NAMPA) - The seventh edition of the Namibia Defence Force (NDF)s 21 Brigade (BDE) General Officer Commander Cup competition is starting at the Katutura Youth Sports Complex in Windhoek on Wednesday.
The competition will see various NDF teams under 21 BDE challenging each other in football, netball, volleyball and pool.
One of the competition organisers, Sergeant Ringo Siririka, told Nampa on Tuesday that the annual tournament is aimed at promoting sport, fitness and discipline within 21 BDE.
Besides improving teamwork among the soldiers, the competition also serves as a platform to bring members together, Siririka said.
Six teams will be participating in the four sports codes for trophies and medals.
The football matches will be played in group stages, whereas netball, volleyball and pool will be played on a round robin basis, he said.
All games will start at 10h30.
The participating teams are 21 Artillery Regiment, 211 Infantry Battalion, 212 Infantry Battalion, 21 Mechanism, Ceremonial Battalion and 21 Brigade Headquarter.
21 Artillery Brigade won the football category last year, while 21 BDE Headquarter won the netball category.
Ceremonial Battalion won the pool competition and 21 Mechanism was the winner in volleyball.
The competition is expected to end on Friday.
