ONGWEDIVA, 17 JUN (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Omusati Region arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the death of a toddler at Iikokola-Ombele village on Monday.
Inspector Linekela Shikongo of the NamPol Public Relations Unit told Nampa on Monday afternoon that the suspect is believed to be an uncle to the deceased.
According to Shikongo, the mother went to collect firewood in the field and left her three-year-old boy in the house alone.
“The mother was caught by surprise when the suspect, who lives at a nearby zinc house, followed her in the field with the news of the death of the child,” Shikongo explained.
Upon arrival, the mother indeed found the child dead in the bedroom. It is alleged that the suspect hit the child with a hoe handle in the head and over the body.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
