WINDHOEK, 17 JUN (NAMPA) – Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti said his team is ready for their opening match of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Morocco on Sunday.
In a media statement availed to Nampa by the Namibia Football Association (NFA), Mannetti said he is confident his team will do well following a perfect camp in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and that their plan is to surprise Africa.
He added that Namibia is an underdog, after being drawn in Group D, perennially referred to as the “group of death,” consisting of South Africa, Ivory Coast and Morocco at the upcoming AFCON that starts on 21 June and ends on 19 July 2019.
“The camp in Dubai was perfect for us with the hot conditions. It also helped us from a mental point of view to balance our preparations ahead of the finals. We are the least expected team to win and that gives us the drive to do extra more and we are prepared to do that,” he said.
The coach said his team will set the tone for the tournament with a good performance on Sunday against Morocco.
He added that the team has confidence going into Morocco’s game after defeating Ghana by a 1-0 score line, which is why he thinks the team has the ability to surprise Africa.
“We can’t wait for the game to start so that we can continue to live the dream. Our first goal is to win our first match at AFCON and then the sky is the limit,” said Mannetti.
The Brave Warriors are set to arrive in Cairo on Tuesday afternoon from Dubai.
They will take on South Africa on June 28 at the Al Salam Stadium in their second match, while their final group game will be against Ivory Coast on 01 July at the Cairo International Stadium.
