WINDHOEK, 16 JUN (NAMPA) MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) rookie striker Isaskar Gurirab was on Saturday crowned NPL Player of the Season, beating Wesley Katjiteo and Dynamo Fredericks of Black Africa to get the accolade.
Gurirab, whose maiden season in the NPL was the 2018/19 season with Otjiwarongo-based Life Fighters, bagged a double during the elite leagues awards ceremony held in Windhoek.
The 21-year-old who missed out on a hat-trick of awards as midfielder Katjiteo took the Players Player of the Season award, walked away with the MTC Namibia Premiership Player of the Season and Top Scorer prizes.
Gurirab scored 22 goals in 24 matches for his club Life Fighters, which finished fifth in their second season after making their return to the NPL during the 2017/18 season.
His awards were accepted by his mother Priscilla Guriras, since the young talisman is on national duty with the senior national football team. The Brave Warriors are currently in Dubai preparing for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals that will be held in Egypt from 21 June to 19 July.
On the night, Black Africa head coach Paulus Shipanga collected the top coaching award after leading his team to the 2018/19 NPL league title.
Matheus Nevonga walked away with the Assistant Referee of the Season award, while Nehemiah Shovaleka took home the Referee of the Season award.
The biggest surprise on the night was when African Stars supporters were awarded a trophy and N.dollars 100 000 for being the best supporters in the league.
Former NPL chairperson Johnny Johnson Doeseb and legendary footballer Oscar Silver Fox Mengo from the former Liverpool Football Club in Okahandja were honoured with the Chairmans award.
