WINDHOEK, 13 JUN (NAMPA) – A lack of sports facilities in Windhoek has forced the Katutura Sport Union (KASU) to postpone the remaining Winter Cup football matches to 22 June 2019.
Competition organiser Kuveri Tjonga told Nampa on Thursday accessing sports facilities in the capital has become a challenge and this causes delays in the completion of tournaments. The Winter Cup started last weekend and was supposed to end this coming Sunday at the Khomasdal Stadium.
Tjonga said the games were postponed due to the unavailability of stadiums.
“The matches will take place next weekend at the Katutura Youth Complex,” he said.
The first game will see Otjinene-based Erindi Otjirarua locking horns with Young Generation from Windhoek. Truck Team will play Otjombinde-based Atletico in the second game before Ofarama from Otjombinde clash with Karibib-based Wild Dogs.
New entrants Tom and Jerry qualified for the semi-final last weekend and will have to wait for the winner between Erindi Otjirarua and Young Generation.
The winner of the football competition will walk away with N.dollars 8 000 whereas the runners-up will pocket N.dollars 4 500.
Each losing semi-finalist will pocket N.dollars 2 250.
Truck Team won the netball category of the tournament last weekend when they defeated Red Dragons 21-16.
