NDF member allegedly shoots and kills taxi driver

WINDHOEK, 13 JUN (NAMPA) – A Namibian Defence Force (NDF) member allegedly shot and killed a taxi driver in the Greenwell Matongo informal settlement in Windhoek in the early hours of Thursday.
The incident occurred around 01h00.
Namibian Police Force spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi told Nampa the taxi approached a mini roadblock set up as part of Operation Kalahari Desert in Monica Street.
“It is alleged that the driver made a U-turn and sped off,” Shikwambi said.
She added that the 38-year-old suspect, who was with a police officer, allegedly fired one shot in the direction of the fleeing taxi.
“The bullet penetrated the vehicle’s boot and hit the driver in the head, killing him instantly,” she said.
The deceased, who was alone in the vehicle, has not yet been identified.
The suspect is based at the Luiperdsvallei Military Base near Windhoek.
Police investigations are ongoing in the matter.
