WINDHOEK, 10 JUN (NAMPA) – A 15-year-old girl who went missing in Windhoek in May this year, was found alive in the Goreangab Dam informal settlement on Sunday.
The girl, who went missing on 24 May, was found in a shack, Namibian Police Force spokesperson Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi briefed the media on Monday.
She said information was received that the girl was living in the shack of “a certain man” who left her alone at times and dependent on neighbours for food.
“She is reunited with her family and at the same time receiving counselling services from the social workers. An investigation is underway in this regard to determine who the man is and why and how she left home,” Shikwambi said.
The police last week issued a notice asking for help in tracing the girl, who is a Grade 9 learner from Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School.
They said after the girl went missing, her mother received an anonymous phone call on 28 May informing her not to look for her daughter. The police said the number the call was received from, has been unreachable since.
