NKURENKURU, 07 JUN (NAMPA) – The National Assembly (NA) along with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations will host a three-day training of capacity development of Namibian Parliamentarians between Tuesday and Thursday.
While announcing the session on Thursday in the August House, NA Speaker Peter Katjavivi said the training focuses on capacity development of Namibian Parliamentarians on Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forestry in the context of national security.
In an interview with Nampa immediately after the session, Katjavivi explained that the training is essential to empower the parliamentarians in dealing with land tenure, especially after the second land conference that was held in Windhoek in October 2018.
He pointed out that the training is an eye-opener to the parliamentarians in term of the history and expertise, because the trainers possess extensive knowledge in dealing with the governance of food security.
“It is a test for our lawmakers to take up this challenge. I am confident that after going through this training, researches would be conducted to mitigate shortfalls and close gaps where needed,” said Katjavivi.
