RUNDU, 06 JUN (NAMPA) – The fifth edition of the Dr Theo-Ben Gurirab lecture series will take place at Rundu on Friday, the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation (MIRCO) said.
In an interview with Nampa on Thursday, Director of Information and Research in the ministry, Bertha Amakali said the session will be held under the theme ‘Climate Change in the Context of the United Nations Conventions to Combat Desertification’.
The series of lectures were introduced by MIRCO in order to inform and engage the public about contemporary global events and was launched by President Hage Geingob on 31 July 2017.
“The lecture series will encourage the public to be involved on taking interest in and shaping the policy on international relations,” she said.
Amakali further explained that the series will provide an opportunity to reflect on how best to continue to effectively serve the interests of the people, contributing to their security, prosperity, and wellbeing.
“The four preceding lectures were held in Windhoek and Ongwediva and were a huge success,” she noted.
The director said the topic for the Kavango East Region was chosen as a result of the effects of climate change that have become a more apparent reality.
The panellists include Deputy Director for Multilateral Environmental Agreements in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Petrus Muteyauli and Chief Executive Officer of the Environment Investment Fund, Benedict Libanda.
Amakali highlighted that the lecture series will be held on a quarterly basis and will rotate to include all university campuses countrywide.
