WINDHOEK, 06 JUN (NAMPA) – The eighth edition of the Katutura Sport Union’s (KASU) Winter Cup will start at the Sam Nujoma and Khomasdal stadiums in Windhoek this weekend.
KASU chairperson Kuveri Tjonga told Nampa on Wednesday N.dollars 25 000 in prize money will be up for grabs during the tournament.
Besides trophies and medals, the knock-out competition will see the winners in the netball category taking home N.dollars 4 000, while the winners of the football competition will walk away with N.dollars 8 000.
The runners-up for netball and football will win N.dollars 2 000 and N.dollars 4 500 respectively, while the losing semi-finalists will each get N.dollars 1 000 in the netball competition and N.dollars 2 250 for football.
The football matches will take place at the Sam Nujoma Stadium and will start at 07h00 on Saturday.
“All other additional football matches are scheduled to take place on Sunday at the Khomasdal Stadium from 07h00,” Tjonga said.
The netball matches will start at 07h00 on Sunday at the Khomasdal Stadium.
The final matches of both the netball and football competitions will be held at the Khomasdal Stadium on 15 June 2019.
“Since the Premier League has ended, we will only allow five Premier League players per team to boost the morale of the other players,” the chairperson said.
Tjonga further said the competition has attracted three new football teams - Amastatus, Neudam College and Tom and Jerry.
Boffing from Oruuua are the defending champions in the football category, while Windhoek-based Truck Team won the netball category last year.
“These two teams won this competition for three consecutive years and they want keep that momentum, so other teams must be prepared,” the organiser said.
The sports union was established in 1992 to develop sports in Katutura.
