REHOBOTH, 06 JUN (NAMPA) – A 37-year-old man arrested for the alleged killing of a 40-year-old woman and assault on the deceased’s mother made his first appearance at the Rehoboth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Sakkie Goliath appeared before Magistrate Bernadine Kubersky on charges of murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, where he was denied bail and case postponed to 28 June for him to apply for Legal Aid.
According to information at hand, the deceased identified as Wilfrieda Saron, reportedly ended her relationship with the suspect last week.
The incident happened between 01h00 and 01h30 on Monday in Rehoboth’s Block E area, when the suspect allegedly followed the deceased who was walking with her daughter and mother after church service.
When the mother of the deceased noticed that they were being followed, she told her daughter to run and call her uncle, but the suspect reached them and seriously assaulted both of them with the spade and ran away.
The deceased died on the spot due to the severity of the assault and injuries while the mother was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital with an open wound on her forehead and discharged after treatment.
Goliath is being detained at the Rehoboth Police holding cells.
Zibiho Munzenze represented the State in the matter and said the granting of bail at this stage will not be in public interest and fears of interference and possibility of suspect absconding were alluded.
