OTJIWARONGO, 04 JUN (NAMPA) - A 56-year-old police officer at the Ovitoto Police Station in the Omatako Constituency appeared in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old schoolgirl at Ovitoto.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas in an interview with Nampa on Tuesday said sergeant Samuel Jacobs was arrested on Monday morning on a charge of rape.
Andreas said it is alleged that Jacobs had sexual intercourse with a Grade 9 school girl at the police barracks in Ovitoto between Sunday night and Monday morning.
“The incident was then discovered Monday morning after the girl failed to sleep in her parents’ house and it was reported to the police station, leading to his arrest,” Andreas said.
Jacobs on Tuesday told the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court that he will engage private legal representation.
He was then granted bail of N.dollars 2 000 and his case postponed to 14 August 2019 for further police investigations.
