WINDHOEK, 04 JUN (NAMPA) – Reigning World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Welterweight champion, Mike Shonena, is scheduled to take on Asian Pacific Youth Welterweight champion, Youli Don, from China on 24 August at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair.
This was announced by the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy at a media conference held in Windhoek on Tuesday.
Shonena is currently rated number five by the WBO, while Dong is rated 15th by the same organisation.
The two boxers will put their titles on the line, with the winner guaranteed a better rating after the fight.
Shonena has won all 14 of his fights, recording three knock-outs and successfully defended his WBO Africa title on four consecutive occasions.
Dong, meanwhile, has a record of 15 fights, 13 wins, one loss and one draw.
Shonena said he was grateful for the opportunity to display his skills against Dong and promised the Namibian boxing fans a great fight.
“I am ready for the fight as I have been training all along. I am busy in the gym, doing my final touches for the fight so I will be ready. I call upon all Namibians to come and support me and the Namibian boxers,” he said.
The Namibian boxer’s promoter, Nestor Tobias, said they will reveal the rest of the undercard for the night in the next few weeks.
