REHOBOTH, 04 JUN (NAMPA) – A 37-year-old man was arrested for the alleged murder of a 40-year-old woman and the assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to the deceased’s mother with a spade on Monday in Rehoboth.
According to information by Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay, the deceased woman reportedly ended her relationship with the suspect last week.
She was identified as Wilfrieda Saron.
Clay said the incident happened between 01h00 and 01h30 on Monday in Rehoboth’s Block E area, when the suspect allegedly followed the deceased who was walking with her daughter and mother after a church service.
“When the mother of the deceased noticed that they were being followed, she told her daughter to run and call her uncle, but the suspect reached them and seriously assaulted both of them with the spade on their heads and ran away,” Clay said.
The deceased died on the spot due to the severity of the assault and injuries while the older woman was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital with an open wound on her forehead and discharged after treatment.
The little girl was unharmed.
The suspect was set to appear in court on Tuesday and investigations continue.
