WINDHOEK, 23 MAY (NAMPA) Senior national football team head coach, Ricardo Mannetti, on Thursday announced his 17-man training squad that will travel to South Africa ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Egypt next month.
The squad will be based at a high performance centre in Pretoria, South Africa from Monday, before traveling to Dubai on 03 June for their final preparations for the continental tournament slated to take place from 19 June to 21 July.
At a media conference in the capital on Thursday, Mannetti said the 28-man squad to represent the country in Egypt will be announced on 03 June.
He said there are players who are going to represent the country at the 2019 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup in Durban from Sunday.
I did not include these players in the squad I announced because they will then be afraid of giving it their all while at Cosafa as they will avoid injuries or tackles, he said.
The coach added that he expects his team to travel to Dubai where they will set up camp from 04 June.
We are going to Dubai for a training camp and on 09 June, we will have our first friendly match with Ghana. Other preparation matches will be announced while we are in Dubai. On 18 June, the team will travel to Egypt, where we will play our first game against Morocco on 22 June, Mannetti said.
Virgil Vries, Maximillian Mbaeva, Ryan Nyambe, Chris Katjiukua, Tiberius Lombard, Riaan Hanamub, Ananias Gebhardt, Benyamen Nenkavu, Danzil Haoseb, Manfred Starke, Willy Stephanus, Petrus Shitembi, Deon Hotto, Benson Shilongo, Iitamunua Keimuine, Peter Shalulile, and Ronald Ketjijere are the players called up by Mannetti.
