WINDHOEK, 23 MAY (NAMPA) – Okahandja United and African Stars played a 2-2 draw at the Sam Nujoma Stadium while Black Africa beat Citizens 4-3 at SKW Stadium on Wednesday in their 2018/19 MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) matches.
In another match on the same night, University of Namibia held Life Fighters to a 1-1 draw at Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo.
Stars and United played a goalless first half which saw the boys from the garden town dominate proceedings in the half, but poor decision making cost them.
However, Stars upped their tempo in the second half and deservedly took the lead from a corner kick which was nodded in by Denis Ngueza Tjetjinda in the 69th minute.
Rodger Katjiteo increased Stars’ tally in the 80th minute when he beat an ill-timed offside trap and coolly chipped over an advancing Calvin Spiegel.
However United refused to throw in the towel as they were awarded a spot kick in the 81st minute, which was missed by first half substitute Gerland Kaengurora, before Blessing Chidzero pulled one back in the 83rd minute.
United equalised in the 86th minute through Simbi Kundasi after a great solo run by Kaengurora.
The draw sees United move above Young Brazilians on the log on 28 points, with a better goal difference.
United need to collect at least four points in their last two matches against Blue Waters and Eleven Arrows at the coast on Friday and Sunday.
UNAM have now completed their season (28 matches) and they are fourth with 42 points, while Life Fighters moved to 42 from 26 matches.
Champions BA continue to open the gap between them and second-placed Stars (54 points) and are now 64 points from 28 matches.
Citizens remain on 38 points in seventh position.
The NPL continues with a clash between Tura Magic and Civics at the Sam Nujoma Stadium Thursday night.
