OUTJO, 22 MAY (NAMPA) - Five people aged between 20 and 45 were arrested Tuesday night on charges of possession of and/or dealing in cannabis at Outjo.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Wednesday told Nampa the suspects were arrested by members of Operation Kalahari Desert after they mounted a mobile roadblock near Outjo, where they conducted random searches or passing vehicles.
“Their vehicle was also stopped and upon searching, we found 60 parcels of cannabis stashed in two travelling bags inside their vehicle and also a 20 litre yellow container which was filled up with some loose fresh cannabis,” Mbeha said.
The 36-year-old driver of the vehicle, along with his four occupants aged 20, 28, 42, and 45, were arrested on the spot at about 17h20.
Mbeha said their vehicle was also impounded there and is being kept in custody of the police at Outjo.
The confiscated 84 grams of cannabis has an estimated street value of N.dollars 184 000.
The five suspects are expected to appear in the Outjo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
