African Day Handicap set for Okamatapati

WINDHOEK, 23 MAY (NAMPA) – The Okamatapati Horse Racing Club (OHRC) will be hosting their first ever African Day Handicap horse racing competition on Sunday at Okamatapati turf club in the Otjozondjupa region.
In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, Kautji Karamata, the organiser of the event, said apart from celebrating Africa Day, their aim is to revive horse racing in the area.
“This event so far has attracted over 55 horses from Okaondeka, Otjinene, Professor, Mouton, De Waal, Rehoboth, Epukiro racing clubs and individuals with horses,” he said.
Karamata added that the club has put aside N. dollars 90 000 to be shared among the winning horses in 22 races on the day.
“There will be other special prices in a form of sheep, goats, trophies and medals to be won in the competition as well,” the organiser added.
He further added that seasonal horses like Freedom fighter, Von Trotta, Starlile, Compressor, STEBBINS, Tate-omukuendata, Saterdag, Kapenailonga and Shadaloo among others registered for the competition.
Karamata further added that there will be new young horses that will bring excitement to the competition.
“Horses like Sunny Side from Professor Supporters Club, Moon Short from Okaondeka, Silver Son and Silver Moon from Otjinene Racing, Hitler Junior of Edison Kandjii and Ferrari of Kanguini Katjiuanjo will make their debuts in Okamatapati, which is good for (the) promotion of horse racing in the country,” he emphasised.
