UUTSATHIMA, 20 MAY (NAMPA) – Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Stanley Simataa on Monday commissioned Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) network towers at Uutsathima and Onamatanga in the Omusati Region’s Okahao Constituency.
The communities of Uutsathima, Onamatanga and surrounding areas have been without a reliable network since independence in 1990.
Addressing the commissioning event, Simataa said people from the communities would have to climb trees to be make a phone call before the two MTC towers were erected over the last three months.
“Communication is fundamental, and it is cruel to take away a human being's right to communication,” Simataa said.
He further said MTC will continue expanding the communication network, with towers to be erected at Amarika, Onanyanga, Eunda, Omuthitugonyama and Iilyateko in the near future.
Simataa also commissioned a tower at Ehafo village in the east of Ohangwena Region’s Okongo Constituency on Friday.
The connectivity to be provided, Simataa said, is the same as in the urban centres.
