SWAKOPMUND, 16 MAY (NAMPA) – The body of a 32-year-old man was discovered hanging from the roof of an empty room in Kramersdorf in Swakopmund on Wednesday.
The deceased man was identified as Therence Tjitare, a police report issued by the Namibian Police Force Erongo crime investigations coordinator Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Thursday said.
The body was discovered by passersby who alerted the police.
“It is alleged that the man committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope at an unspecified time,” it said.
A suicide note addressed to his father and colleagues was found, however it does not state the reason why he committed suicide, the police said.
No foul play is suspected and his next of kin are informed.
In an unrelated matter, a case of attempted murder has been opened against a 36-year-old male, after he reportedly hit a 35-year-old man with a brick on the head on Monday.
It is alleged that the two were involved in a fight at the DRC informal settlement here, when the suspect picked up the brick and hit the victim on his forehead, causing serious injuries.
The victim was taken to Swakopmund State Hospital and then transferred to Katutura State Hospital in a serious but stable condition, said the police.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court in due course.
Police investigations continue.
