WINDHOEK, 08 MAY (NAMPA) – African Stars and Black Africa Football Club have promised fireworks when they clash on Thursday evening in the second round of the 2019 MTC Namibia Premier League match to be played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
This came out during the two clubs’ joint press conference in Windhoek on Wednesday.
Stars assistant coach, Andrews ‘Jaws’ Tjahikika, said preparations for the game were going well with only one player, Edwin Korukuve, likely to miss the match through injury.
“When we came back from our African Safari, we were behind in terms of games and points. Naturally we had to catch up, as we were initially 12 points behind BA but we managed to reduce the gap to six points behind them with a game in hand. That means we are still the title contenders and we are happy with that,” he said.
He called on the Stars faithful to come and support their team so that they can win and compete on the African continent.
Meanwhile, his opposite number, Alfred Ndyenge, said they are looking forward to the game as they aim to hold on to their current position on the log (first) and hopefully win the title at the end of the season.
“For this season I have seen players really bringing football to life. From a technical perspective, there is talent coming up and this talent needs to be natured and developed to improve it,” he said.
Ndyenge said his club has three players namely McCartney Nawaseb (suspension), Wendel Rudath and Avihe Mbai (both injury) out of the match.
“We have suitable replacement who are not known as the side-lined payers. It will be an equally tricky contention for both the technical team and players,” Ndyenge said.
In the first leg, Stars were humiliated 5-1 by BA, a result which led to the sacking of then coach, Robert Nauseb, after only four matches in charge.
The two teams are fighting neck and neck for the NPL Championship with the BA sitting at the top of the log on 54 points from 24 matches while the Stars are second 48 points from 23 matches.
Stars still have seven more matches to play while BA will play six matches before the conclusion of the season.
