WINDHOEK, 08 MAY (NAMPA) – Long distance runner Kefas Kondjashili says he is ready to shine in at the Gaborone Marathon which will be held in Gaborone, Botswana on Sunday.
The marathon runner said this on Wednesday after receiving the backing of Marathon Sugar as he prepares for his 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers.
Speaking at a media conference that was held to announce the sponsorship, Kondjashili said he has prepared himself well for the Gaborone Marathon and the sponsorship of his flight ticket and accommodation at the marathon from Marathon Sugar will make his job easier.
“After Marathon Sugar came on board with their sponsorship, I can now focus on my training and go to bed peacefully as I’m not worried about transportation and accommodation when in Botswana,” he said.
The athlete added that putting up a great performance on Sunday in Botswana is his main focus at the moment.
“Earlier this year I tested myself at the Rössing Marathon and finished in second place so after that I continued training. I right now feel great and ready to for this competition,” Kondjashili said.
Kondjashili stated that if he does not qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games, he will try his level best to at least qualify for the 2019 World Athletics Championships that will be held in Doha later this year.
Speaking during the sponsorship announcement Genevievé Fisch, marketing officer for Tongaat Hulett Namibia, said backing Kefas and assisting in his development is not only part of their corporate social responsibilities but their duty to see him reach his full potential.
“Marathon Sugar has given Kefas all he needs to do his best, it’s now up to him to fulfil his dreams and reach his greatest potential. As an organisation all we want to see is him qualifying for the 2020 Olympics Games that will be held in Tokyo, Japan,” she said.
