WINDHOEK, 08 MAY (NAMPA) – Rundu-based North East First Division outfit Cuca Tops have set themselves the goal of returning to the country’s elite league within the next three years.
Cuca Tops were relegated from the Namibia Premier League after finishing bottom of the table on 14 points during the 2002/03 season.
The club’s public relations officer Michael Kampota told Nampa the recently-elected executive committee members have set themselves the goal of seeing the team back in the NPL.
“We are one of the oldest clubs in Rundu and have a rich history, which is why we want to see this big club at the same stage as those playing in the high league in Namibia,” he said.
Kampota added that their vision of returning the club to the NPL is possible due to the unity among the club members.
“We have a good team currently in training waiting for the First Division League to kick off. We are positive of playing in the NPL very soon as our supporters all over the two Kavango regions and the whole country are waiting to cheer behind the team as they go on the journey of realising this dream once more,” said Kampota.
The resumption of the First and Second Divisions’ football leagues has not yet been announced, but the Namibia Football Association Normalisation Committee is expected to sit this month to decide on it.
Cuca Tops’ new executive committee members are; Herculano Mwenyo (chairperson), Andreas Kandjeke (treasurer), Paulus Sinonge (vice treasurer), Michael Kampota (PRO), Joseph Nauyoma (vice secretary), Shindimba Kudumo (vice chairperson), Kafuro Lauretus (chairperson: supporters club), Wayera Hausiku (secretary) and Pau Kandere (chairperson: sport).
