WINDHOEK, 07 MAY (NAMPA) Namibia won the Best Stand: Southern African Development Community and Africa prize at the 2019 Africas Travel Indaba.
Namibia beat Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo to win the platinum award, while the two other countries took gold and silver respectively.
Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) Chief Executive Officer, Digu //Naobeb received the award on behalf of Namibia when the three-day event ended Saturday.
In an interview with Nampa here on Tuesday, //Naobeb said the criteria used to decide on a winner were the exhibition stand, design, interaction, networking and hospitality.
Twenty-seven exhibitors formed part of Namibias stand, participating under NTB as the government agency responsible for bringing together the private and public sector in implementing the national policy on tourism.
//Naobeb noted that the selection was done by a panel of independent exhibition judges from southern Africa who evaluated the stands throughout the duration of the event.
The platinum award does not come with money, but it holds significance and is very influential as the world saw what the Namibian tourism industry has to offer, he said.
//Naobeb noted that the design of the stand and all other costs involved in participating in the Indaba cost about N.dollars 500 000.
Given the limitations in our budget we were creative and stood out amongst the others, he said.
The trade show is one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African calendar and top three on the global chart.
The annual event showcases the widest variety of Africas best tourism products and destinations.
