WINDHOEK, 06 MAY (NAMPA) – The 28-member training squad that will be preparing for the 2019 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup, has been announced.
The 19th edition of the Cosafa Castle Cup will this year be held in the coastal city of Durban, South Africa from 25 May to 08 June.
Speaking during the announcement here on Monday, the senior national football team’s assistant coach, Collin Benjamin said they called up a squad consisting of mostly local-based players as they are also preparing for the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers later in the year.
“Our mission is to give these boys exposure because after the African Cup of Nations, we will have CHAN which we have to qualify for. With a bit of exposure at international level some of these boys will pick up experience which will help in our CHAN fight,” he said.
The coach added that despite calling up a team consisting of local-based players only, they will still travel to South Africa to compete.
“We always want to win competitions but looking at the situation that we are in at the moment, it won’t be that easy as its going to be a drip-drip situation,” Benjamin said.
The 28-member training squad includes Lloyd Kazapua, Ratanda Mbazuvara, Kamaijanda Ndisiro, Ikeinge Erasmus, Treasure Kauapirurua, Larry Horaeb, Charles Hambira, Vitapi Ngaruka, Ivan Kamberipa, Emilio Martin, Aprocious Petrus, Edmund Kambanda, Absalom Iimbondi, Aubrey Amseb, Dynamo Fredericks, Lucky Heita, Marcell Papama, Wesley Katjiteo, Revered Matroos, Wendell Rudath, Gustav Isaak, Llewelyn Stanley, Martin Shimaneni, Johannes Jackson, Isaskar Gurirab, McCarthy Naweseb, Junias Theophilus and Joslyn Kamatuka.
The team is expected to report for training at the Namibia Football Association Technical Centre in Katutura on Tuesday.
