OSHAKATI, 04 MAY (NAMPA) – The Oshakati Town Council (OTC) will participate in sport codes such as soccer, netball, pool, tug of war and seven-a-side soccer during this year’s Namibia Local Authority Sports and Recreation Association (NALASRA) Games.
OTC spokesperson, Katarina Kamari mentioned this to Nampa when the council received sports gear and drinks from local business entities, on behalf of its teams, here on Friday.
Sash Trading donated netball kits worth N.dollars 8 000, Omatando Construction Company sponsored sport bags, water bottles and caps worth N.dollars 10 000, Windhoek Consulting Engineers contributed N.dollars 2 500 and water bottles plus energy drinks valued at N.dollars 1 000.
The 11th edition of the NALASRA tournament is slated for Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region from Sunday, 05 May to Saturday, 11 May 2019.
It was introduced in May 2008 in Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa Region with the aim to bring Namibian local authorities’ employees together, to network and share experiences while partaking in sport.
“In 2009, the first games were held in Otjiwarongo (also in the Otjozondjupa Region) with about 18 NALASRA-subscribed local authorities participating by then,” Kamari noted.
Soccer, tug of war, netball, pool, owela, relay, golf, fishing and fun walks are the sport codes for the NALASRA tournament.
