WINDHOEK, 03 MAY (NAMPA) The Brave Warriors were on Thursday evening drawn to play against Malawi, Seychelles and Mozambique in Group B of the 2019 Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) tournament.
The competition is scheduled to take place between 25 May and 08 June.
The draw, which was conducted live on SuperSport Television, will see the winners of the group facing Zambia in the quarterfinals.
Namibia will be led by assistant coach Collin Benjamin, and indications from the Namibia Football Association (NFA) are that he will take local-based players to 2019 Cosafa tournament as preparation for the 2020 African Nations Championships Qualifiers against the Comoros Island, which takes place right after the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Group A will comprise of Angola, eSwatini, Comoros and Mauritius.
The winners of the group will face defending champions, Zimbabwe
Uganda will have to get past Lesotho to advance to the semi-finals, while host South Africa will face neighbours Botswana in a repeat of the 2016 Cup final and the 2018 Plate decider
The four winning quarterfinalists advance to the cup semi-finals, while the losing teams will move in to the Plate competition.
Madagascar is the only Cosafa member who has declined an invitation for 2019, but will be replaced by Afcon-bound Uganda.
The Comoros Islands will be appearing in their first Cosafa competition since 2009.
Zimbabwe are the defending champions after winning the last of their record six titles in Polokwane 12-months ago, when they edged out Zambia 4-2 in a thrilling final.
Zambia and South Africa have four wins each, Angola three wins and Namibia one.
