WINDHOEK, 29 APR (NAMPA) – Bottom of the log Civics Football Club held log leaders Black Africa (BA) to a 1-1 draw in the 2018/19 MTC Namibia Premier League match played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday.
BA were the first to settle and dominated the Civilians, with captain Dynamo Fredericks’ shot saved by Civics’ newly signed goalkeeper Yacoub Diabate from Ivory Coast in the fourth minute.
BA continued creating chances but failed to trouble Diabate as their strikers either misplaced their passes or took time to shoot, allowing Civics to clear their lines.
However BA took the lead in the 21st minute when a corner was flicked to the far post by Emilio Martin and Fredericks headed in to make it1-0.
Civics grew in confidence and immediately looked to respond, with captain Deon Kibit’s shot flashed wide in the 26th minute.
Both teams created a few more chances but failed to utilise them, leaving the half-time score at 1-0 in favour of BA.
The second half was a different story as the Civilians got the equaliser through Matheus Halupe.
Civics won a free kick in BA’s half and Stanley Newman floated the ball into the 18 yard area. Quinton Kharuseb headed the ball across for Halupe to slam the ball home and make it 1-1.
Both teams then tried to go for the winner but failed to find the goal that mattered most as the match ended 1-1.
With the draw, BA remains on top of the log with 48 points, ahead of African Stars who have 42 points with two games in hand.
Civics drop to the bottom of the log with 18 points, one behind Orlando Pirates who beat Eleven Arrows 2-0 at the coast.
Other results from the weekend saw Tura Magic beat Tigers 2-1. Julinho overcome Young Brazilians by a similar scoreline Friday night at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
