REHOBOTH, 24 APR (NAMPA) – The five men arrested for the slaughter of livestock at Farm Khoichas in the Hardap Region, made their first appearance in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.
Fernando Albert, 21; Stoffel Fillander, 20; David Habel, 35; Herold Kito, 19; and Stanley Goliath, 25; allegedly entered the farm east of Mariental on 14 April and slaughtered eight sheep valued at N.dollars 12 000. The police lodged an intense operation and managed to recover six carcasses and arrest the suspects, including an employee at the farm.
They appeared before Magistrate Anna Marie Kruger on a charge of stock theft and their case was postponed to 10 June for further investigations and to allow them to apply for legal aid.
The suspects were denied bail on the grounds that they might interfere with police investigations and might contact witnesses.
They are being held at the Mariental Police Station holding cells.
Public Prosecutor Reinhardt Jacobs represented the State in the matter.
