President’s budget increases by 7 per cent

WINDHOEK, 24 APR (NAMPA) – The Office of the President (OP)’s budget increased with N.dollars 29.8 million from N.dollars 405 million the previous term to N.dollars 435 million in the 2019/2020 financial year.
This represents a 7 per cent increase.
The information was availed by Presidency Minister Martin Andjaba, while motivating the budget for the OP in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Out of the total allocation, N.dollars 345 million is for the operational budget and Andjaba noted that this is a decrease of about N.dollars 32 million from the previous year.
However, there was an increase of N.dollars 61 million in the development budget in the current financial year to N.dollars 90 million.
Under the development budget is the San Development Programme which sees to integrate the San, Ovatue and Ovatjimba communities into the mainstream economy.
There are two other offices within OP; that of the Vice President and the Founding President.
Under the protection of the national constitution programme, the Office of the Vice President’s allocation was increased to N.dollars 9.4 million from about N.dollars 9.2 million.
The Office of the Founding President’s allocation also increased to about N.dollars 13.9 million in the 2019/2020 financial year from N.dollars 13.1 million in the 2018/2019 period.
“The objective of this programme is to ensure that the offices of Namibia’s former Heads of State are properly maintained and provided with efficient and effective support services,” explained Andjaba.
The members of the Presidential Advisory Council also serve under this programme.
