WINDHOEK, 23 APR (NAMPA) – Otjinoko won the netball category of the Otjinene Sport and Culture Association’s annual April competition on Monday.
The tournament is held at the Otjinene sports field and serves as a platform for the selection of players for the Otjinene All Stars team. It attracted 16 netball teams.
Otjinoko retained the cup when they defeated Ozongaru 22-12 and won N.dollars 4 000 and a trophy. Ozongaru walked away with N.dollars 2 000, while Ozombovire and Otjihitua each took home N.dollars 1 000 as semi-final losers.
Otjinoko team manager Tjono Jagger Hangero told Nampa he was very happy with the outcome and with the players’ commitment.
“We managed to win the competition for the fourth consecutive time despite missing our two key players, who went to represent our region at the Namibian Newspaper Cup,” he said.
Hangero said the young players showed a hunger for success.
“We have two players, Uahengisa Tjozongoro and Vetjevera Kazongonga, who play in the national team and that motivated other players to work hard. Our player Mesututjike Hange also scooped the player of the tournament in the netball category at the Newspaper Cup,” he said.
The competition’s football category will start on Saturday.
The Otjinene Sport and Culture Association was established in 1987 to promote sport and cultural activities in the constituency and the Omaheke Region as a whole.
